SUGAR & VINEGAR

View Miss California's Response HERE

"Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. Um, we live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and in, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that's how I was raised and that's how I think that it should be between a man and a woman."

Which matters more, the fact that Miss California was truthful in her answer or that she didn't give the answer that according to some would have sealed the deal on the crown? Its a moral Catch 22. If she said the "correct" answer and earned the crown as a result, she would have to live with the lie (which probably would of came out later as controversy). Yet, the answer that she stands by makes her not fit for the crown because as Miss USA, she would have to "represent all Americans" (as if that were ever achievable). Although this story has already been archived for MTV's "Worst Answers of 2009" special, it's worth bringing back up because its a novel arena for the battle between religion and politics. It should go without saying that principle is impartial. Yet Miss America's answer was bitter sweet, because it exposes the divide that would not be there had the "Separation of Church and State" really existed. To be fair the question should have been asked of all the contestants. Americans for the most part have no idea what Miss North Carolina thinks of this matter. Should Miss California get credit for truthfulness?

UPDATE: "Looks like her answer may have cost her TWO Crowns."

  • Carrie Prejean has been stripped of her Miss California Crown, for violating her contract by posing nude and agreeing to campaign with the National Organization for Marriage, and other anti-gay organizations. Prejean may also become a contributor on Fox & Friends.
  • Former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, formerly married to Blink 182's drummer Travis Barker, has resigned from her position as the the Miss California State Pageant director releasing a statement in light of Prejean's activities saying :"I cannot with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it, or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth..."
