Is it important which religious institution The Obama's decide to attend? Yes, but in the general sense that everything they do will send a message. It could be a right, wrong, or even subliminal message. In the words of Rev. Ronald E. Braxton, pastor of Metropolitan AME, a historic black church six blocks from the White House, in an article that sparked this post, "It seems to me that wherever they go at the end of the day, a whole lot of feelings will be hurt." Its seems that Church & State are holding off on the divorce papers, as several churches in the D.C area are campaign, yes CAMPAIGNING to be the spiritual home of the Presidential Family. What would happen if The Obama's pick a historically black church? Will the episodes of Reverend Wright be dusted off and flung back in the lime light in a "We Told You So" special sponsored by extremists? What if they go the safer route, of a modern day ethnically diverse church. OR will The Obama's continue on the road to change and choose something completely unprecedented, like a synagogue or mosque. Who knows? One thing should be for sure, which ever religious institution the First Family chooses, it shouldn't affect the President's job, which is to serve the American people.
